Up the Yin-Yang With Yianni

No, we’re not taking you on some Travel Channel special adventure up an uncharted, brown-tinged Chinese river... Rather, renowned producer Yianni Plesspray shares his deepest thoughts and opinions with you on a variety of topics.

If there’s anything you don’t understand, it’s best if you just shoot yourself and spare Mr. Plesspray from having to explain it to you — or shooting you himself.

Yianni on Jazz
I hate jazz. I just can’t get into it. It’s like “math music.” “Oh, look at how complicated we play — we can change the chord every half a beat. And look how fast we can do those runs...” I mean, jazz to my ears sounds like a bunch of guys playing in all different time signatures and different keys. Basically, they play wrong notes and refer to them as “flat 5” and “flat 9” and put major and minor thirds in the same chord and call it “dissonance.”

That’s just my opinion — there’s really no right or wrong in music, despite what a lot of people will tell you.

As Bono once said: “Art is the enemy of good taste.”
